concept . . . SAVE THE PLANET

Save the planet . . .

Global Warming is a inevitable that millions of people still ignore today. it is one of the few things that genuinly annoys me so much. It makes me so angrey that people just don't care about the world.
The ignorance of people makes the sick and I feel like I should cry and fight at the same time.
The fact is that we collectively are killing the earth.
I am in no doubt that global warming could have been inevitable without our help. but we're all hurrying up the process of distruction.
So here's my research on Global Warming and to prove that saving the world is GOOD and nessesary.

Most if not all of you will know what Global warming is, but here is a brief description:

http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/science/topics/globalwarming/index.html
http://environment.nationalgeographic.com/environment/global-warming/gw-overview/
These links above are where I got my information from.

Right now the world is warming up, making the glaciers melt, the sea level rise, cloud forests are drying and wildlife is struggling to survive in the ever changing conditions. Although it is niaver to suggest that Human have causes all of this warming effect, our modern lifestyle has contributed a massive amount and something needs to give if we are to slow down the warming. Our lives mean we release heat-trapping gases which are incredibly harmful to our atmosphere.
The levels of these harmful gases named 'Green house gases are higher now than in the last 650,000 years.
As the earth spins each day the new heat swirls with it picking up moisture over the oceans, rising and settling in different places. This is changing the rythms of the climate that animals and nature has become dependent upon.

So basically you get the idea, that we have contributed to this and as we figure out how to try and prevent this from going further the effects of our actions are still unravelling.

The simple diagram will have been shown to everyone and explains simply the reason how the greenhouse effect is happening.

A diagram showing that extreme weather conditions have been dramatically rising since the 80's and the mass effect that has had on the corporate world.

Another ridiculoisly famous graph showing the excessive height in tempurture over the past century.

Above: three graphs all showing a dramatic increase: Carbon Dioxide, Methane Concentration and Nitrous Oxide Concentration.

Basically a diagram of the amount of money insurance has had to give out due the weather conditions.

A diagram showing the rise in sea level.

A diagram showing the earths average surface temperature since 20000 BC.

A diagram of the earths temperature as a average since 1000.

Politics:
We all know that is something is going to be changed dramatically it's down to the government.
In 2010 a massive Global Warming conference was held including all the world leaders, to try and resolve this issue and put change into everyone lives.
However, their agreements fell well short of the broad range of changes the planet needs and the recomendations scientists put forward.

"The package, known as the Cancún Agreements, gives the more than 190 countries participating in the conference another year to decide whether to extend the frayed Kyoto Protocol, the 1997 agreement that requires most wealthy nations to trim their emissions while providing assistance to developing countries to pursue a cleaner energy future." (linked above)

At the heart of the debate is the arguments between which countries should initialise the change and which of them will pay most towards the change.

"In the United States, on Jan. 2, 2011, the Environmental Protection Agencyimposed its first regulations related to greenhouse gas emissions. The immediate effect on utilities, refiners and major manufacturers will be small, with the new rules applying only to those planning to build large new facilities or make major modifications to existing plants.  Over the next decade, however, the agency plans to regulate virtually all sources of greenhouse gases, imposing efficiency and emissions requirements on nearly every industry and every region."

In the meantime the recent dip in emissions seems like a set in the right move due to the economic slowdown, however scientist warn that this will inevitally be followed by a massive rise and with the population and energy continuously rising, they say the challenges we face today will only intensify.

RAINBOW GATHERING:
What is a Rainbow gathering :
Rainbow Gatherings are temporary intentional communities, typically held in outdoor settings, and espousing and practicing ideals of peace, love, harmony, freedom and community, as a consciously expressed alternative to mainstream popular culture, consumerism, capitalism and mass media.

"When the earth is ravaged and the animals are dying, a new tribe of people shall come unto the earth from many colors, classes, creeds, and who by their actions and deeds shall make the earth green again. They will be known as the warriors of the Rainbow"

 -- Old Native American Prophecy

Some say we're the largest non-organization of non-members in the world. We have no leaders, and no organization. To be honest, the Rainbow Family means different things to different people. I think it's safe to say we're into intentional community building, non-violence, and alternative lifestyles. We also believe that Peace and Love are a great thing, and there isn't enough of that in this world. Many of our traditions are based on Native American traditions, and we have a strong orientation to take care of the the Earth.

We, who are brothers & sisters, children of God, families of life on earth, friends of nature & of all people, children of humankind calling ourselves Rainbow Family Tribe, humbly invite:
All races, peoples, tribes, communes, men, women, children, individuals -- out of love.
All nations & national leaders -- out of respect
All religions & religious leaders -- out of faith
All politicians -- out of charity

The interesting thing is that we all consider ourselves to be part of a huge, extended family, no matter what our reason for gathering, no matter what our spiritual or religious or political or economic or social views may be. And many people who have not yet had an opportunity to attend a gathering also feel they are part of this family.

Another interesting thing is that there is no formal organizational structure. There are no membership qualifications, no fees or dues, no leaders, and virtually no rules other than the one of "peaceful respect." Each year, individuals take personal responsibility and work together with others on whatever they are inspired to do, from office work, to scouting, to building the kitchens at the gatherings, to hauling in food and first-aid supplies, to peacekeeping, etc. Every project undertaken operates essentially on a consensus basis. Participation, communication, and cooperation are how things get done.

The gatherings are free and non-commercial, and everyone is welcome. Each person is asked to bring their own camping equipment (this all takes place in remote areas of the National Forest), their own cup, bowl, and spoon, and whatever they might want to share to help the gathering happen (tarps, shovels, musical instruments, bulk food, etc.). No one will be turned away because of lacks in these areas, however. The Magic Hat is passed at mealtimes and around camp. Donations are used to buy food in bulk for the kitchens and whatever else may be necessary for the communal well-being (plywood covers and lime for the latrines, first aid supplies, etc.).

Besides the work that goes on to help the gathering happen, there's also lots of accoustical music, drumming, dancing, workshops, herb-walks, council circles, sister circles, brother circles, brother-sister circles, people hanging out, people bartering, people enjoying nature, people meditating, chanting, and praying, people talking politics, people talking spiritual and personal growth, people visioning the future, people doing bodywork and other healing work, ...

The magic, the connection you feel is the essence of the Rainbow Family of Living Light.
Peace, love, and light.

In July 2009, the American Festivals Project attended the Rainbow Gathering in New Mexico's Santa Fe National Forest. The annual event, held in national forests across the U.S., grew out of the 1960s counterculture movement and usually draws between 10,000 and 20,000 people focused on peace, love, and respect for nature. Traditionally, thousands of people meet in the central circle of the Rainbow Gathering camp on the Fourth of July to meditate and pray for world peace. Everyone is expected to keep silent from sunrise on the Fourth to the moment when the prayer circle is broken, sometime after noon. During the 2009 gathering, dark storm clouds broke minutes after the prayer circle ended—and a double rainbow appeared in the sky.
A man plays his stringed bass in a tent city. Music is an essential aspect of the gatherings; every evening impromptu concerts spring up
A prayer alter, centrally located in the largest field, is a collection of offerings and pictures of various spiritual leaders.
"There never seems to be a moment when drums cannot be heard throughout the forest," photographer Ross McDermott writes. "Day and night. The drumming and dancing never stops."
A young man emerges from the woods at the end of the gathering with “Dose Me” written across his chest.

Design a better world Identity and first conference materials:
How can graphic design save the planet?

A major international design conference being held at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum as part of the Sydney Design 09 Festival. It’s the inaugural conference for ‘Design A Better World’ - a banner for what is hoped will become a global initiative, encouraging designers from all the major disciplines to help make a difference in the way we work, rest and play…and therefore to the world in which we live.

This environmentally friendly package is redesigned for General Electric high-end light bulbs. It is highly encouraged nowadays in the design world to design with sustainability in mind.
Therefore, this package is designed based on recycled material. The color scheme is meant to promote environmental design. The material chosen is much stronger than the original, which helps protect the fragile bulbs. All of the information is cleanly incorporated into a label system to reduce printing over the whole package. In terms of structure, this is designed for easy transport and stocking. This product can also be displayed in many positions.

We as designers can make a difference everyday by what we do. The power is in our hands, it is just a matter of us taking action.

during the night of icff 2008, we introduced a line of six different, well, stools. our point is this: everyday, we get told to reuse this, to save that, not to waste, not to stand idle while the planet dies... and all this while we have at our disposal one of the best, if not the most sophisticated recycling machine ever invented: the human body. and so, we asked why aren't we using what we have at the ready to resolve this crisis. and we did. the answer was inside of us all the time my friends and that is why we are proud to present the first furniture collection made out of human (un)waste.as you can see above, our designers have worked overtime to bring the future. each theaptPEEP, because of his or her diet, has created a unique piece that is a demonstration of how far the human spirit can go if pushed to the limit.

"let's start a movement!" that was the battlecry at the party which is why we invited the hundreds of heros who were lucky enough to attend on saturday night to show that they gave a shit by taking a shit... at theaptPOOPSHOOT (http://theaptpoopshoot.tumblr.com/) see how we can all come together and make a difference.

COLORLESS.

Eco friendly package proposal

A convex logo substitutes colorfully sprayed can. Naked can help to reduce air and water pollution occurred in its coloring process. It also reduces energy and effort to separate toxic color paint from aluminum in recycling  process. Huge amount of  energy and paint required to manufacture colored cans will be saved.Instead of toxic paint, manufacturers process aluminum with  a pressing machine that indicates brand identity on surface.

  • Advance Nonwoven
    Identity
  • Occasionally great ideas just rise up from the ground. In this case it literally did. Advance Nonwoven is the first company to create products from 100% organic and recyclable fibers.

Our job was to create an identity that visualized the company profile, and give them a strong and professional public image. All of the stationary and prints are of course made in 100% recyclable paper, just as their products.

Fairtrade-certified tea estates in Africa, India and Sri Lanka.

Instead of showing the faces of the employees, we show their belongings. This from one of the janitors.

  • Anthon B Nilsen
    Annual report
  • Annual report for Anthon B Nilsen, an over 100 years old company that operates in the fields of property, education and recycling. What a man carry in his pockets can tell a lot about a person, and Anton B Nilsens largest resource is their employees the individuals behind the scene. Documenting the company from the inside by showing their emplyees belongings, rather than just their faces, we learn to know the company at a personal level. RECYCLED TEABAG TABLE CLOTH

This is a project about getting people to reuse clothes to reduce waste and make the environment better. I branded a sub brand of St: Vincent De Paul, a giant in second hand shopping in Australia. I chose to call it VDP, short for Vincent De Paul. The connection to SVDP is not to be obvious in the concept, it's rather to be targeted to fashionistas as a new and fresh second hand shop. It's supposed to be situated in Paddington, the center of fashion in Sydney. It's all about fooling young people to save the planet.
I made a logo, paperbag, hangtag and invitation to premiere opening. It's supposed to be screen printed with only one color on 100% recycled paper, everything to make it as sustainable as possible without having a label saying "We're saving the world!".
Let's fool fashionistas into saving the world!

http://www.behance.net/gallery/ReuseReduceRedesign/474435

"20 Years Ago" is a sub-brand of the company "green house" which specialized in tree seeds. The concept was inspired by a Chinese proverb "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now", I wanted the target audience to put themselve in the future, and look back 20 years ago when they actually can make a difference. This create a very clear brand image and purpose.

The package uses only bio-degradeable material, which allows the audience to plant their seed in a very simple, easy, and eco-friendly way.

Ecological notebooks. . . are designed with unusable paper and books. Ecologically and economically its the best way to recycle.

  • Matjaz Cuk Visual Identity
    One size fits all
  • A small design studio needs many different office materials for its communication. In order to cut down on costs, resources and waste, I had to rethink the design of stationery. Plans of 9 different items are printed on one sheet of paperboard using only two printing inks. A paper with excellent environmental credentials from Gmund has been used.

The required item can be cut out on demand. From one sheet of paper you can get:
    – two small folders
    – one large folder
    – 7 CD packages, 5 medium sized cards and one bookmark
    – two small notebook covers and 6 small cards
    – two large notebook covers

Variable information such as my logo and address are printed on removable stickers. Printing waste is therefore minimal as materials can be used in various ways, reused and recycled at the end of their lifecycle.

    Góralka, Rosjanka, Benedyktynka
    Tea Packaging
The "Góralka, Rosjanka, Benedyktynka" package series is an alternative to a regular tea box. This package was meant to emphasise the unique type of the product contained inside it. This work has been inspired by women's head coverings, i.e. a laced cap from Cieszyn Silesia for Góralka (a women living in Polish mountains), a cloth decorated with flower motifs in case of Rosjanka (female Russian citizen) and an nun's cowl (in case of Benedyktynka - a female member of the Benedictine Order). The package was designed to protect a delicate bag containing a herbal mixture as well as to be environmentally friendly and recyclable.

This was a fun project as it allowed me to explore an older style of mine from a few years back. Core style of course inspired by classic character design and animation.
The idea was to have each core element it's own sticker, but in the end the idea didn't pan out. So instead the sticker idea was used as the intro page to the article and then some of the remaining characters used throughout the 10 page article.

Eat Seasonably celebrates eating the right things at the right time: a crisp salad when it’s hot and sunny, a wholesome stew when it’s cold; strawberries in June, Brussels sprouts in December.
Eating seasonably means:
Better taste " top chefs agree that fresh seasonal produce is best
Better value " our research has shown that a basket of fruit and veg bought in the summer can be as much as a third cheaper than the same basket bought out of season
Better for the planet " growing in season requires lower levels of artificial inputs than at other times of the year

A 'woven' paper cover and presentation box I designed and created for world renowned Japanese Architect Shigeru Ban. He was pitching to build a project here in Sydney. I collaborated with talented designer Greg Anderson from  Trigger Design on this project. Greg art directed the report's contents and typography. Shigeru Ban, also know as the 'Paper Architect', is most famous for his innovative work constructing with paper, particularly recycled cardboard paper tube.

  • Table Nº1
    Branding, Identity & Menu Design
  • Table Nº1 is Shanghai's first gastro-bar that serves up tapas-style modern European cuisine. It is set in a sleek and simplistic interior which encourages social interaction by sharing portions over a long communal table. The brand identity is based on the restaurant's focus on communal dining in a very simple and unpretentiousness environment, that explains the use of brown kraft paper & newsprint paper throughout the collateral system. Since the longish communal tables in the restaurant are the central theme, the business card is designed to be a little table when folded up. Basic folder with clips are used for the menu. The distressed and rusted look of the clips is to align with its history of the location of this former warehouse. We also created order pads from newsprint papers that the staff can convenient stamp the restaurant logo on.

Indoor pollution is one of the most dangerous problems we are facing in the world today. Since it cannot be seen with the naked eye, the majority of people remain uninformed about this ongoing problem, and no action is taken to prevent it. In terms of design, the concept of this book is based on the fact that you cannot see this problem, but it is right in front of you. The typeface used is Avenir to send out an alert. Throughout the whole book, the type and graphics will take up more and more space to simulate the pollution that is building up quietly inside the home. So be alert or your love ones will be next!
